Unfortunately, there’s no option in the Settings app to change the default music app, so you have to use Siri every time you want to set another app as the default. We don’t know why Apple removed this feature from the second beta release of iOS 14.5, but it’s now back with the third beta. This works for apps like Spotify, Pandora, and Amazon Music. Hopefully with Jellyfin support, this could become a possibility. Plexamp can do this with Plex but could be a private API. Yes, I can start PLEX from my iPhone and it plays through my infotainment system.but it must be controlled from the iPhone.which is very dangerous and the reason why CarPlay exists in the first place. After tapping one of the options, it will become the default for the next commands. CarPlay support Payment required to unlock additional features. PlexAmp is an open-source music player which is able to handle the majority of current codecs. I have no interest in integrating PLEX video material into CarPlay.but PlexAmp is a different matter. Setting up the digital tuner and antenna is a bit more.
Setting up a Plex server is not difficult. Plex Pass users get a lot of extra features, including a music player called Plexamp, which lets me play my Plex music library through Apple CarPlay in my vehicle.

One reader mentioned that Plex Passes go on sale occasionally for around 100. Now this same feature is coming to the iPhone and iPad with iOS 14.5. In addition to letting users set third-party email apps and web browsers as default, iOS 14 included options to change the default player for music, podcasts, and audiobooks on the HomePod. For some unknown reason, this option was removed from iOS 14.5 beta 2, but Apple has re-enabled it with today’s release of iOS 14.5 beta 3. One of the new features introduced with the iOS 14.5 beta was the ability to change the default music player used for Siri commands, similar to what’s already available to HomePod users.
